Experiments in World building

Mon Mar 2, 2009, 11:10 AM
So, I have always had this desire, to create this large and intricate world, full of mystery, intrigue, and just the right amount of self loathing and humor; And once this world was fully created and realized on paper, with pieces of it still floating in the ether of my imagination, I wanted to select a group of individuals to explore the world I created with free reign to do basically whatever they wanted, of course, within the context of the physical limitations presented in that reality.

Yesterday marked the start of this chance and the beginning of an experiment designed to explore how players interact with something when success or failure rests, in a large part, in their own hands.

I must say, the first session ended very well. After the long character creation seminar, in which I felt two parts like an algebra teacher and one part a creative writing instructor, the players where sent to a plane not apart of the campaign proper, to expose them to the fun and intricacy of combat and dungeon exploration.

Their tales can be found here: [link]

I'm very excited to continue developing this adventure and seeing where these adventures take their own story in this universe I crafted, and who knows maybe it will inspire them to do the same to others when this module is finished.
